SACOG Recognizes Capital Village for Regional Award for Distinctive Community Planning

On December 18, 2008, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG), the regional planning and transportation agency for the six county Sacramento region, recognized Capital Village with an award for innovative planning and implementation of smart growth community input and values. The award, called the Blueprint Excellence Award, recognizes a project implemented or completed in calendar year 2007 or 2008 for unique approaches to smart growth. The selection criteria includes providing a variety of transportation choices, offering housing choices and opportunities, taking advantage of compact development, using existing assets, mixing land uses, preservation of open space, and distinctive attractive communities with quality design - all aspects of Capital Village!

The award was submitted by the City of Rancho Cordova Planning Department along with letters of support from the Cordova Community Council, Economic Development Department, and local employer VSP. The award application also recognized the contributing organizations of Beazer Homes, Jeffrey DeMure + Associates Architects Planners, DSL Service Company, Nadel Architects, HDR, MRO Engineers, LCA, and Sarget Town Planning.
